The Jack Nicklaus Golf Club which hosted this event for eight years made way for Woo Jeong Hills last year, a course designed by Pete Dye's son. Last year was the first time we got a proper look at the golf course despite it holding the Korea Open for most of this century. During that time plenty of the world's best have travelled there, including Rory McIlroy once a runner up. Fowler, Daly, Singh, Yang and KH Lee are just a few of the big names to have come here and won so it would be foolish not to give serious consideration towards the bigger names in the market.

This is a top heavy market and the favourites hold all the aces. With three wins this season Eugenio Chacarra has the edge on the other two. It must be said though that he is doing a lot of the work with the putter lately and it does seem somewhat unsustainable to keep those heroics going. He is a man on a mission for the Race to Dubai though and has thrown a spanner in the works in what looked like a duel between McIlroy and Reed. The Spaniard is one of the hottest golfers on the planet right now and will be busting to get back out onto the golf course on Thursday.

Si Woo Kim ranks 8th in the DataGolf rankings and is the shortest price of the front three. This will be Kim's first full tournament outing since the Tour Championship at the end of August. That in itself is a shade worrying but taking a short price about someone who is likely to put you through hell watching him putt is a leap too far for me. He is winless in nearly four years also so taking the plunge with him would need a hearty soul. I'd argue he should be the outsider of the front three if anything.

Sungjae Im at 17/2 (WIN)

I'd have Sungjae Im favourite in this event and it is for that reason he is my strongest bet of the week. He too is winless on the PGA Tour since 2022 but he did land a Korean tour victory back in 2024. Like Chacarra, Im has been doing a lot of good work with the putter of late but that is the norm for the 2022 Shriners champion. Unlike Si Woo, Im doesn't have to answer the match fitness test having played the Baycurrent where he finished 9th then last week in Macao he was beaten in a playoff. That should be the perfect warm up and in his last six events his worst finish has been 15th, 5 of which have been in PGA Tour events. He was 14th in the Open Championship in July and ever since he has looked like a potential winner on any given week. It did look that way earlier in the season also when 5th at the Truist and 9th in the Byron Nelson. He looked to have found something but after that went on a poor run of form which lasted up until the Open at Birkdale. His approach play has improved in recent months and although things aren't perfect in that department the upturn has been the missing piece of the jigsaw.

Yanhan Zhou at 125/1 (Six Places)

There isn't a whole lot to go at further down the market for me but one I'm prepared to take a chance with is Yanhan Zhou. In this raw 18 year old we have the epitome of inconsistency and inexperience. This is his first full season on tour and although it has been a rollercoaster there have been numerous high finishes. 2nd in the Danish Golf Championship and 3rd in the Hainan Classic have been the highlights to here. He missed the cut on his last DPWT start but hit the ball quite nicely off the tee. Last week he warmed up fpr this in Macao finishing 40th but it's worth noting he led the event after an opening 64. That has been the story really, a lot of inconsistency, but we can certainly forgive someone this young. His runner up finish in Denmark came after two miserable missed cuts in Italy and Germany. His 3rd place in Hainan was off the back of four missed cuts on the spin. As he showed in the first round last week he is more than capable and maybe the Far East is the most likely destination for him to string four rounds together.
