Our resident pundit bids to get the week off to a winning start with three Monday bets.
3.40 Catterick
BEENO (NAP) (best price 15-8) was unlucky to bump into a very well handicapped horse in the shape of Lady Buttons at Newcastle last time out, but with nothing seemingly as well treated to face here this afternoon, Ken Slack’s gelding can make a breakthrough for new connections. Although beaten fair and square on the day by Philip Kirby’s in-form mare, the Exit To Knowhere eight-year-old impressed by the way he travelled and with the form of the race working out so well with the likes of the winner and Dark And Dangerous going in since, the race looks a totally believable one.
3.50 Wolverhampton
SENNOCKIAN STAR (best price 7-2) has been in terrific heart of late and he looks set to continue the good work back at a track where he’s gone well in the past. Winner of two of his last three starts, Mark Johnston’s gelding posted a decent speed figure in the latest of those victories at Lingfield last time out (third won back at the track on Saturday) and having had several of today’s opponents behind him when runner-up to the improving Mythical Madness over today’s C&D back in December, another big performance looks on the cards from the seven-year-old.
4.30 Plumpton
FUNNY OYSTER (best price 11-2) stayed on well to finish runner-up in a strongly-run maiden hurdle over today’s C&D last time out and with that sound performance providing her with what looks a decent-enough handicap mark, she’s fancied to give a solid outing on his first attempt in this sphere. Although the third placed horse that day, Work, has to be respected given he was also having his third mandatory to gain a mark and might improve significantly today, the Dark Angel filly did finish ahead of David Pipe’s inmate on merit and with the dead eight runners due to go to post, it makes sense to play her each-way at the morning prices rather than go all-in on the short priced favourite.
