SWINCOMBE SCORCHIO (NAP) (best price 10-3) defied his 100-1 starting price in no uncertain terms over today’s C&D last time out and even though he’s one of the least experienced runners in the field, he may have sufficient upside to overcome that slight negative. A former point-to-point winner, Polly Gundry’s charge showed a little bit of promise on his first two starts, but it wasn’t until he faced the contours of this track until he really sprung into life. Staying on strongly in the closing stages after getting outpaced from four out, the son of Scorpion gave heart failure to those that made the useful Rock The Kasbah a short-priced favourite and although it’s dangerous to take the performance at face value, the fact that he gave a 144-rated horse more than something to think about makes him more than interesting on handicap debut off just 113.

Although not the most straightforward, MIGHTY ZIP (best price 6-1) is clearly in a good place at the moment and his recent run of solid form looks set to continue at a track that suits him down to the ground. A winner over 5f on the day when the wind was blowing a gale two starts ago, Lisa Williamson’s inmate only just failed in his bid to follow up that success a week later when just nutted in the closing stages by Krazy Paving and given that he was ridden really aggressively that day, a more patient ride can pay better dividends this evening.
