SHANTOU ROCK (NAP) (best price Evens) has clearly taken to this sharp right-handed track on the evidence of his two previous visits to the Shropshire venue and he can keep his unbeaten record in tact on his first start in handicap company. Since being allowed to bowl along in front Dan Skelton’s charge hasn’t looked back and that aggressive policy can pay dividends again at a track where his run-style can be a very effective tool.

RHYMERS STONE (best price 4-1) has yet to finish out of the money since joining new connections and arriving here off the back of another success over today’s C&D, confidence is high he can go close once again. A regular over this course, Harriet Graham’s inmate finally got his just rewards for plenty of fine performances previously with a gutsy win at Newcastle four starts ago and the way he powered through his latest encounter before bounding up the hill suggests he’s still right on top of his game.  Although the son of Desideratum faces his stiffest test to date, his love for the course and soft ground will count for plenty and he rates a rock-solid each-way bet at his morning price providing all eight runners stand their ground.

The race won by Sam Brown at Wincanton back in early February has worked out really well, so UNDERSTATEMENT (best price 14-1), who was a creditable fifth, has to be of some interest despite slight questions marks over the suitability to today’s much quicker conditions. Cutting out the running and making sure it was a proper test that day, Warren Greatrex’s inmate couldn’t go on in the latter stages once lack of race fitness in the heavy ground took its toll, but given that the winner and the second have won since, and the fourth has finished second, the form looks strong in the context of today’s race.
