FIRE FIGHTING (best price 15-2) was a bit disappointing in listed race at Kempton last time out, but he did get a brutal trip out wide that day and he’s probably worth another chance to make amends despite the stiffness of today’s company. Mark Johnston’s charge certainly doesn’t go rusty in his box once the action gets underway and following a productive spin around Dundalk back in March, he arrived at the Surrey venue with what looked a decent chance. However, after a slightly tardy start, the son of Soldier Of Fortune could never get any cover throughout the contest and, expending more energy than most of his rivals, he eventually had nothing left in the tank when push came to shove off the home bend. Having already scored over today’s C&D on a previous visit to today’s track, hopes are high he can show his class and reward each-way support.

GLOBAL DREAM(NAP) (best price 7-1) has been in good form all winter and he might have gone close to completing a hat trick but for a two very bad blunders which cost him dear at Newbury last time out. Still holding every chance turning in with half a mile to race, Caroline Bailey’s inmate put down when his jockey asked for a big leap at the first in home straight and then just for good measure, he got squeezed out and lost more valuable ground and momentum when two horse converged on him two out. Rallying to the call from the back of the last, the son of Lucarno did remarkably well to finish within four lengths of the eventual winner Ten Sixty given the trouble he found in the latter stages and that performance went some way to suggest this likeable seven-year-old may still be capable of mixing it off a career-high mark.
