Four bets from our resident pundit this afternoon, including a strong fancy at Beverley.
2.00 Beverley
No arguing that Spoof sets the standard following useful efforts in two above-average contests, but he does come up against some stern opponents again in the shape of PORCHY PARTY (best price 4-1) and MAGIC JAZZ (best price 16-1) so once again he may have to wait his turn to finally get his head in front. The former ran a pleasing race over today’s C&D 15 days ago and like most of Tom Dascombe’s first time out, a big improvement following that initial experience can be expected. Hung out to dry on the outside of the pack, the Dragon Pulse colt, however, did keep on in a way that heavily points towards him being more streetwise second time around and he looks booked to go well from a reasonable draw. The latter also caught the eye at today’s venue on debut and he could well turn out to be the biggest value among the field if he can trap a good deal better than he did 27 days ago. Finding himself stranded towards the back of the field at halfway thanks to a dreadful start, Kevin Ryan’s charge made up the majority of the ground he forfeited and in hitting the line really hard, he gave a big indication of what might have been had he broke on terms and what potentially he could be capable of in future.
3.30 Beverley
DETACHMENT (NAP) (best price 3-1) was heavily backed to land a similar contest to today’s last time out, but due to a tragic run worthy of a Greek drama, Les Eyre’s inmate was unable to bring home the bacon. Held up going well on the inside going past the three furlong pole, from that point on the son of Motivator got no run whatsoever and allowed to come home in his own time, he left his supporters with the huge feeling of what might have been. Although he could have done with a better draw, hopefully he has enough quality to overcome that slight negative but either way, he remains a horse to keep on side for the remainder of the season.
7.20 Killarney
Having already proved he can handle testing conditions in the past, MR ADJUDICATOR (best price 10-1) makes quite a bit of each-way appeal at his top morning odds. Lightly raced at two, Joseph Murphy’s inmate made a bright start to this campaign with an excellent fourth behind the progressive Gino Severini in a well-run handicap over 7f at Naas on his opening bow and he followed that up with another fair effort at Navan last time out. Despite not being as fully effective under the quicker conditions 22 days ago, the Camacho gelding kept on well enough to finish a creditable fourth behind another progressive three-year-old in the shape of Lightning Fast, and hailing from a stable that often do well with their runners at this track, a positive display looks on the cards.
