BECCY CAMPBELL (NAP) (best price 10-3) might have won just an ordinary handicap at Lingfield last time out, but her tremendous closing sectionals suggests it was a performance which belied her current rating and she rates a decent bet to confirm that view at a track where she has a terrific record. Held up at the back of the field at the Surrey venue, the daughter of Roderic O’Connor found herself with seemingly a mountain to climb as they pack rounded the home turn, but finding an amazing turn of acceleration in the final three furlongs, she gunned down her rivals in the dying strides. Posting a hand-timed 47.4 for the last four furlongs, she clocked splits 2.4 seconds faster than 113-rated and Derby bound Best Solution, who took the listed contest half-an-hour earlier on the same card, and based on those findings, it’s clear we dealing with a potentially very well-handicapped horse providing she can run to a similar standard this afternoon. Unsuited by firm ground on her two previous visits to today’s track, the ease underfoot last time clearly helped her extend her stride once in full cry, so with conditions ideal and a track record of 3-3 when that has been the case, the four-year-old filly rates a solid choice with so much in her favour.
3.55 Gowran
There was a lot to like about the debut succes of SPRING GARDEN (best price 6-1) at the Curragh nine days ago and she’s taken to build on that initial outing and be pushing for the victory here this afternoon. Racing in mid-division until halfway, Jessica Harrington’s filly did all her best work in the latter half of the race and finishing with plenty of gusto late on, she ran on strongest of all to be a never-nearer third behind the more experienced Dabulena. Likely to have come on considerably in all departments from that outing, the daughter of Fastnet Rock is strongly fancied to make her presence felt in this similar race from her in-form stable.
4.25 Gowran
DABULENA (best price 6-4) has the most upside of this quintet and is taken to progress up the ladder for a trainer that does particularly well with three-year-old fillies of this nature. Although beaten on her first two starts, Dermot Weld’s charge still ran to a decent standard on the figures, so it was no surprise to see her finally get off the mark at the third time of asking at the Curragh last time out. Racing prominently throughout, the daughter of Siyouni stayed on very strongly in the latter stages to keep her 14 rivals at bay and with stamina looking one of her main attributes, one would imagine that she will receive another positive ride from a jockey who rides today’s track better than anyone in the weighing room.
