TAVERNER (Best price 8-1) has come unstuck on his last two starts, but he now returns to his happy hunting ground, so there’s every chance he will outrun his double-figure quotes. A free going sort, his run style is often quite difficult to execute at the Dunstall Park track, but with form figures over today’s C&D of 2133, he appears pretty well equipped to overcome the bias. Nicely drawn in stall six, he should get the perfect line to sweep into the back straight in front (his main competition for the lead, Vroom, drawn in stall 11) and if his promising apprentice get the fractions right at the head of the peloton, career victory number five isn’t beyond the realms of possibility.

A promising third at Beverley on debut behind the useful Mountain Angel (good second in competitive Doncaster handicap since), INSHIRAAH (NAP) (best price 5-2) went on to fill out the same position over today’s C&D last time out and a repeat of that level of form should see George Peckham’s inmate go close to shedding his maiden tag. In a wild finish where a bob of the head either way decided the outcome, the son of Holy Roman Emperor impressed with the way he went all the way to the line with his head bowed down in honesty and with a favourable inside draw and a potentially nice lead from one of his main market rivals, Getna, just outside of him in stall three, everything looks set fair for another bold show.

BROUGHTONS FANCY (best price 11-2) and BINKY BLUE (best price 11-1) were both heavily involved in a very strongly-run race when they last visited today’s track, and they can each play a similar significant role on their return to the Dunstall Park circuit. The former did really well to overcome a poor draw and a tough wide trip that day and given the circumstances, it was certainly no disgrace to go down to the tune of two lengths to Prince Of Time, who went into the contest on a bit of a roll. A previous winner over the same C&D earlier in the year, Gary Moore’s charge had just about everything go wrong from start to finish at Kempton last time, so with that unfortunate run best scratched off the list, the daughter of Pastoral Pursuits must have a better chance than her odds imply. Although the latter was seven places behind her old rival in that aforementioned heat back in May, that finishing position doesn’t tell the whole story. Coming with what was amounting to a decent-looking challenge inside the final furlong, the daughter of Approve had her run cut off at the pass and having to be snatched up from that point, she was eased and allowed to come home in her own time. A strong-finishing fifth after a tardy beginning at Lingfield last time only goes to further advertise her claims here today and providing she can work her way into a challenging position from a potentially tricky draw, Mark Loughnane’s five-year-old has the ability to go extremely close.
