Andy has four selections today as he aims to end the week with some winners.
Even though Mendelssohn shaped nicely on debut and represents a stable that won this race in 2014 and 2016, Aidan O'Brien's inmate might have a race on his hands here with SWISS COTTAGE. Not massively well fancied on his debut over today's course six days ago, Joe Murphy's charge ran a good deal better than market expectation when keeping on pleasingly in the later stages of a race run at sound tempo. Going through the line quite nicely, the son of Swiss Spirit suggested he would do much better with that initial run under his belt and when he gets a stiffer test, so going back to the scene of that excellent performance with an extra furlong to cover all adds up for him to be hugely competitive here this afternoon.
WESTLAND ROW was a shade disappointing last time out at Galway, but soft ground rendered his chance pretty useless and he's better judged on his previous performances on a sounder surface. Runner-up to the useful Mr Showtime over today's C&D three starts ago, Gordon Elliot's inmate was given a typically cool ride by Davy Russell when getting the better of Major Destination next time out at Ballinrobe and with the crack Irish pilot back on board today, one can expect this strong-travelling type to perform to a better standard this afternoon at a track that suits.
Another who has an affinity with today's unique venue is ANDRAXT and he is also worth an interest. Arriving here off the back of a game victory at Galway last time out, Mark McNiff's gelding had proven himself twice over today's C&D and that vital track knowledge is likely to count for plenty in a tightly-knit affair.
Having won this race an astonishing 15 times, clearly Aidan O'Brien knows a thing or two about preparing one for this race and even thought ACTRESS (NAP) looks the second string based on jockey bookings, it would come as no surprise if she were to fly the flag for the Ballydoyle camp. A creditable sixth in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot, the daughter of Declaration Of War has clearly improved in the interim and her victory over the useful Thebold and Brother Bear here last time out proved that theory in spades. Although her draw in stall two is a slight concern given how there seemed to be a stands side bias here the other day, hopefully she will get a decent early slot and not become marooned out in no mans land as here time figures suggest she's right up with the best of these based on her numbers.
