Setting her stall out from an early stage at the Dunstall Park track, the daughter of Nathaniel kept winding up the pace on the final circuit and gradually one by one, she dropped her rivals who just couldn’t live with her relentless, metronomic gallop. Digging deeper into that improved performance reveals a speed figure which offered reasons why her opposition all waved the white flag, and if she can translate that sort of display on to this slightly different surface (has raced on polytrack at Lingfield before), there’s s decent chance she will give the favourite all the trouble he can handle.
6.20 Sligo
NELLIE PLEDGE (best price 5-2) stormed to victory over today’s course last time out – running way behind her current mark based on her time figure – and a repeat looks well and truly on the cards in a race where many have slight questions to ask. Relishing the strong pace, the daughter of Dubal Destination stayed on very strongly in the latter stages and with her overall and sectionals bettering those achieved by the 116-rated Ben Button by quite some considerable margin (landed handicap over same C&D), it’s clear this mare is in spanking good form at present. Although today’s ground is likely to be slightly slower that what they were 12 days, she has got some useful form in the point-to-point field to put the mind at ease (won 3m mares’ maiden on soft) and this improving mare makes plenty of appeal at her top morning price.
6.30 Newton Abbot
COEUR TANTRE (best price 2-1) made in 2-2 over today’s course when scoring tidily on his first start for new connections last week and given that he achieved that feat in a very smart speed figure, he’s likely to take all the beating again if in the same sort of form. Setting out at a brisk pace here six days ago, Anthony Honeyball’s inmate never looked in serious threat for those who participated in a well-informed gamble (3-1 into 10-11) and although today’s contest represents a slightly stiffer examination, he had enough in hand to suggest he could prove equal to the task.
7.10 Yarmouth
MULTICULTURAL (NAP) (best price 11-8) won with devastating ease over today’s C&D last time out and providing the blinkers work for the second time in succession, James Tate’s charge will prove very hard to beat. Always travelling silky smooth in the hands of Martin Harley, the Fastnet Rock filly only had to be given one back-hander to assert her superiority in the closing stages and with the clock revealing it was a performance of some substance (ran the last 4f quicker than the two 6f sprint handicaps) she looks a three-year-old ahead to the curve at present.
