DIAMOND DOUGAL (best price 6-1) found a nice turn of foot in the conditions at Haydock last week and even though the ground is likely to be a good deal less testing here this afternoon, there’s no real reason he won’t go well again. Off the back of pretty stern fractions at the Lancashire venue, Mick Channon’s charge quickly sealed matters inside the final furlong and his winning time and splits point towards it being a better performance than his current mark of 76 suggests.

CUIRASSIER DEMPIRE (NAP) (best price 9-4) created a favourable impression when scoring tidily at Worcester last time out and he’s fancied to repeat the dose off what still appears to be a pretty lenient mark. Having just his third start over fences at the Midland venue, Tom George’s inmate always had matters in control and the way he bounded away from Washed Ashore and subsequent winner, Doitforjoe, indicated he’s a young chaser to keep on side. 

QUATRIEME AMI (best price 8-1) has taken a while to come to hand following a gelding operation, but he now seems to be really in groove going into the dying embers of the season and his win last time out at Redcar only further gave proof of his current wellbeing. A very smart two-year-old, he just couldn’t make any sort of impact during his next season off marks in the 90’s, but he now looks incredibly well treated based on the pick of old form now he’s sprung back to life. Although he only scored by a narrow margin seven days ago, he left the impression he had more in hand than the official winning distance suggested and this appears another golden opportunity for Charlie McBride’s inmate with ideal conditions to suit.

CLASSIC PURSUIT (best price 11-2) has only once finished out of the frame in his six visits to today’s track and he looks set to keep those impressive stats intact following another sound effort on his dance card at Redcar last week. Although he couldn’t quite cope with the well-handicapped pair, Quatrieme Ami and See The Sun, Michael Appleby’s inmate finished nicely clear of the rest and providing the ground stays no worse than good-to-soft, another positive display looks in the offing. 

Beauty Filly may have come out on top in the owner’s bragging rights match between herself and LEFT ALONE (best price 13-8) at Yarmouth 13 days ago, but there’s no question the latter left the biggest impression and she’s strongly fancied to confirm that view second time up. Held up towards the rear and hemmed in on the rail as the field migrated to the stands’ side, Hugo Palmer’s charge was in an uncompromising position as the tempo increased approaching the two furlong and although she was never likely to make up the deficit in such a short space of time, she did, however, make a good fist of it to get within a length of the eventual winner. Likely to be much sharper for that initial experience, the daughter of Reckless Abandon will hopefully have enough quality to overcome a slightly tricky draw.
