MANDERIN PRINCESS (best price 14-1) acquitted herself with great credit in a decent maiden over today’s C&D last time out and she starts her life in handicap company off a far mark based on that performance. In a race run at a sound pace 27 days ago, the daughter of Vale Of York just wasn’t good enough to go with the leaders inside the final two furlongs, but at the same time she kept on willingly enough to suggest she has a future in smaller, low-grade contest. Indeed, using the eighth horse home that day, Zizum as a guide (went on to finish second off a mark of 63 next time), Charlie McBride’s inmate doesn’t appear too badly treated off an opening perch of 61, and returning to the scene of that excellent effort, she looks to be slightly underestimated in the market in a race where there appears to be no standout candidates.

Lightly-raced fillies at this time of year can be extremely dangerous and DAPHNE (NAP) (best price 4-1) fits the bill perfectly arriving here off the back of a victory on her only outing this term at Newbury several weeks ago. Off the back of honest fractions, William Haggas’ charge proved very courageous in the latter stages and with the third horse home that day, Withhold, advertising the form in no uncertain terms at Newmarket on Saturday, this scopey filly – who often comes good at this time of year – can supplement those gains at a track that should suit.
