After the array of talent on show and brilliant racing over the weekend, a pretty low-key start to the week is inevitable, but in the shape of CAPITOUL (best price 11-2), there’s a decent chance he can cast aside any feelings of melancholy. Winner of a novice hurdle at Ayr last season, Dr Newland’s inmate began this campaign with a respectable effort under a big weight at Bangor and that display was enough to ensure he was a well-backed second favourite in a Flat jockey’s challenge contest at Lingfield last time out. Still going well approaching two out, unfortunately the son of Enrique stepped at the hurdle and crashed out when holding a length advantage, but as it appeared he looked to have plenty left in the tank, the theory of him being a winner without a penalty makes him quite a tempting proposition in this similar race here today

INEXES (NAP) (best price 10-1) hasn’t got the sort of profile that makes you want to rush to the counter every time he runs, but he’s done enough on his last two starts to warrant a small interest at the prices this morning. Fifth in a hot race which is working out well at Newcastle two starts ago, it would have been interesting to see how close he would have got to troubling the winner at Kempton last time but for meeting interference at a crucial stage late on and as he’s gone well at tonight’s venue on many times in the past (placed three times in five starts) a return to the Dunstall Aprk track from his favourable inside draw should see Marjorie Fife’s inmate run better than his odds suggest.
