Cool Mix ensured the race won by McGowan’s Pass ended up being a smart one on the speed figures over today’s C&D last time out, so even though ARDEAN LASS (NAP) (best price 7-2) was beaten some way in fourth, she still ran pretty well in defeat. On her first outing since March, Shane Crawford’s mare settled down into a nice rhythm once dropping the bridle after a little early freshness, but the combination of the relentless pace and lack of an outing took its toll in the latter stages as she got left behind from two out. That said, she shaped well enough to be a huge consideration with that all-important run under her belt and hailing from a background of point-to-points, one can also envisage an extra improvement coming now she races over a further half a mile.
One For Harry was really game when recording a hard-fought success at Haydock last time out and with the handicapper only seeing fit to raise him a smidgen, there’s a decent chance he can follow up. He is, however, 0-7 at today’s track whereas bar a fall when well clear a year ago, ELUSIVE THEATRE (best price 11-2) has yet to run a bad race in four starts at the Scottish venue and on those grounds, she gets the slight nod. Seemingly at her best when allowed to race on a flat, left-handed track, Shane Crawford’s charge ran pretty well for a long way in a hot mares’ only contest at Cheltenham last time out and with connections no doubt having one eye on this prize at a track she loves most, that sound performance 17 days ago should have put a nice edge on her preparations.
