A real improver throughout the last year, the son of Exceed And Excel – who has always shown plenty of natural pace in his races – found the drop back to the minimum trip playing into his strengths 25 days ago and given the performance came off the back of a 223-day break, he deserves even more praise for his achievements. Nicely drawn today smack down the middle in stall four, the seven-year-old should be able to cover the pace either side with a good, clean break, and knowing that he has the stamina to see out a well-run race, all adds to the general positivity about his chance.

CANADIAN ROYAL (best price 6-1) has been firmly knocking at the door for some time now and today’s contest provides him with another solid opportunity to finally shed his maiden tag. In the frame on all three visits to the East Midland track, he clearly loves the fibresand, and with his latest of those performances coming in yet another strongly-run race for the grade, Stuart Williams’ inmate can’t be faulted in any way for his endeavours. Obviously, today’s step up in trip to a mile is a little bit of an unknown quantity, but the way he’s kept on in the latter stages of his races over shorter suggests he shouldn’t have too many fears, and he rates a decent each-way prospect at his early morning odds.
