Despite his modest-looking form figures, MR WHOPPIT (best price 9-1) had shown a degree of promise earlier in the season and with him realising some of that potential over today’s course last time out, Pat Murphy’s gelding is given another chance to see what he can do now racing over a furlong further.
Having run better than the bare form suggested at Tipperary the time before, it came as little surprise to see him figure prominently on just his second start in handicap company here two weeks ago and the way he finished off his race also pointed towards the seven-furlong trip being an insufficient test.
A nice type with the potential of more to come and a workable handicap mark, the son of Kodiac is fancied to hit the frame at the very least.
16.45 Gowran Park
PADDYTHEIRISHMAN (NAP) (best price 5-1) has yet to get his head in front in 12 starts, but he’s certainly been knocking at the door of late and it might well be today when it finally opens. A strong finisher from off the pace at Navan three starts ago, the son of Camacho had to be marked down an unlucky loser on his next outing at Naas when he met loads of trouble inside the final two furlongs and with the third horse home, Solomons Seal going on to advertise the value of the form next time out, the performance deserves upgrading.
The way he finished off his race that day, the drop back down to seven-furlong was always likely to catch him out on his latest outing at Cork, but now back over a more suitable trip given his run style, the eight-year-old should have the ideal opportunity to finally gain that illusive first success.
20.10 Kempton
Indian Tygress without doubt in the sexy one in this field, but the market certainly hasn’t missed James Fanshawe’s filly and there may be better value to be had with OUTRAGE (best price 13-2) who looks in decent shape based on his last two efforts. A slightly unlucky runner-up to the in-form Kamra over today’s C&D two starts ago (lost ground early sue to his high draw), Daniel Kubler’s gelding made no mistake last time out when justifying good support and a trip up to Newcastle.
Coming with his usually late rattle, the son of Exceed And Excel scored with plenty in hand that night and even though most of his best form has come over the minimum trip, he’s worth another go to see whether he can finally win over six furlongs.
