YOUR MOTHER’S EYES (best price 9-2) has been up against some very smart juveniles so far to date, but now he finally gets a chance to race against a more realistic set of opponents, he should figure prominently on his first try in handicap company. 

Unsurprisingly, Alan Bailey’s colt never landed a blow on debut behind the top-class Jash at Newmarket and it was a similar story against another smart field at Sandown next time. Although soundly beaten on his latest encounter at Nottingham, once again he had little chance trying to lock horns with the likes of subsequent winner at the potential top-class Mohaather and several others who have pretentions of mixing it good company next year.

That said, he did keep on quite nicely from the back of the pack 27 days ago and off an opening mark of just 62, a decent break from his potentially favourable inside draw should surely see him competitive against this sort of opposition.

SHIMMERING DAWN (best price 11-4) could have done with the draw being kinder (middle to low numbers usually best on straight course), but so well did she run in a very hot juvenile contest first time out that she might have the qualities to overcome the slight negative.

Easy to back beforehand, the daughter of Morpheus showed up well for a long way at the seaside track until lack of an outing and experience took its toll late on, but she still came out of the race with great credit. Moreover, the time figure was extremely good for a two-year-old race and with the winner just narrowly failing in a Group 2 and the third winning since, the form looks very reliable.

Likely to take a huge leap forward in terms of sharpness and fitness, James Tate’s filly should be capable of giving a good account.

EDEN ROSE (NAP) (best price 2-1) ran out an impressive winner over today’s C&D last time out and with the excellent Scott McCullagh in attendance to do the steering, the combination should make for a deadly partnership in this apprentice handicap. 

Given how Mick Channon’s rangy filly scored here seven days ago, it makes you wonder why connections hadn’t gone down the all-weather route with her before, but now that she seems to have been found the perfect surface for her substantial frame, she has the potential to rack up a sequence of wins.

Indeed, her time figure at the Dunstall Park venue indicates she was trapping along at a fair pace for the grade and even though she picked up a mandatory penalty for that facile success, the fact that she’s able to run within the same class band more than outweighs that slight impost.
