In some pretty choppy waters during the season just past, simply wasn’t up to scratch in the races won by useful pair Winston C and Bright Forecast, but in contrast, the latest crowd he faced was well within his compass providing he ran to somewhere near his true capabilities. Unfortunately, the son of Multiplex was given an overly-aggressive ride over today’s C&D and, as a result, he faded badly from the home turn onwards. He has, however, displayed enough qualities in the past to suggest he’s perfectly capable of meeting the requirements of a race of this nature and he’s afforded another chance to poke his nose in front.

MAX FORTE (best price 7-2) ran out a comfortable winner of this race last year and following a promising effort in a decent contest at Warwick last time out, there’s a fair chance that lightening could strike twice. Winless in six starts during last winter, Chris Down’s gelding subsequently underwent surgery on his wind to see whether that operation could spark him back into life and on the evidence of what we saw at the Midland track 12 days ago, the answer was very much in the affirmative. Although he couldn’t quite get on terms with the rejuvenated Robin The Raven, the nine-year-old finished well clear of some useful and in-form rivals and with that splendid performance, among many others, all coming on a genuinely fast surface, conditions at tonight’s venue provide him with the perfect platform to run up to his best.
