Some old favourites and regulars at the track face the starter in this seven-furlong handicap but it might well be that one of the new kids on the block, CORRIDA DE TOROS (best price 9-2), may have the necessary requirements to prove a hit for the younger generation.

In hindsight, Ed De Giles’ colt had little chance of competing on a level playing field with subsequent listed winner Tapisserie at Salisbury two starts ago, and although he failed in his bid to land some tidy bets on handicap debut at Newbury last time out, there were some positives to take out of that display. In a well-run affair at the Berkshire track, the son of Lope De Vega looked dangerous as he loomed up to throw down a challenge at the furlong pole, but from that point on, his stamina gave way and he faded inside the distance to finish a respectable fifth. Back down in trip and having run well on his debut on his only previous visit to today’s track, the lightly-raced three-year-old should be capable of making some sort of impact off a mark of just 69.

A cracking line-up assembled for this rated race and MIAMI BEACH (best price 5-1) and SOLDIER AT WAR (best price 8-1) make the most appeal at their respective morning odds.

The former hasn’t looked the most progressive of chaps until the tongue tie was fitted for the first time at Kilbeggan last time out, but with the aid of the new contraption, Joseph O’Brien’s inmate was able to put his previous disappointments well and truly behind him. In what turned out to be a strongly-run affair at the Co Westmeath venue, the four-year-old stayed on powerfully in the closing stages to win in convincing fashion and with tonight’s extra distance threatening to bring about even further improvement, he’s seen as one of the major contenders.

As it turned out, the latter faced an impossible task trying to give over a stone and a 20 length head start to the useful front runner, Effernock Fizz at Wexford last time out, but that fact that he managed to heavily reduce the margin of defeat is testimony to his ability and resolve. Prior to that excellent effort, Gordon Elliot’s gelding had the misfortune of bumping into the smart Stratum in a similar contest at Ballinrobe and having previously been successful over 2m4f at Sligo, a return to that sort of trip should see him in a better light.
