A creditable third behind subsequent easy Aintree winner Sammy Bill on his chasing debut at Kempton (fast time), Ben Case’s gelding was well-supported to get the job done at the second time of asking and, after picking up the running some way from home at the West Country venue, he stayed on in game fashion to fend off previous course scorer Duc Kauto. A winner of a maiden hurdle last season at today’s Norfolk track, the son of Stowaway went on to finish placed on his two other subsequent visits and with conditions here this afternoon very much to his liking, the prominent-racing six-year-old looks set fair for another bold display.

Of those that have already run over fences, none of them have exactly set the world on fire, so it might well be that a decent round of jumping from SPEEDY CARGO (best price 7-4) on his chasing debut will be sufficient to get the job done.

Although yet to win in seven starts, it’s noticeable that his latest effort when third in a competitive handicap hurdle at Hereford came courtesy of the first-time cheekpieces, so assuming the headgear works just as well for the second time, there’s no reason why he couldn’t run up to the same level. Although he could only plug on at the one-pace at the Midland venue 20 days ago, he still posted a fairly useful time figure for the grade and, coming from a background of racing in the point-to-point field, he’ll have enough knowledge to cast aside any fears there might be about jumping fences in public for the first time.
