Andy Holding's Tuesday Racing Tips

FRAGRANT DELITIEP (NAP) (best price 4-1) has got beaten a far way in three novice hurdles so far this season, but as two of them came in red-hot contests over today’s track, there’s a fair chance he will be a good deal more competitive in these much calmer waters on his return visit.

Sent off 100-1 for the first of those assignments, Robert Walford’s gelding didn’t shape too badly behind the potentially very useful Sporting John in December and although he was just as unconsidered in the market a month later, he ran even better when third to smart juvenile Sir Psycho. In a race run at a blistering gallop for the conditions, the son of Fragrant Mix was no match for the wide margin winner, but he did only finish seven lengths behind the previously-impressive Uttoxeter scorer Bullionaire (rated 137) after being a long way behind at halfway and that has to go down as a pretty smart effort for a horse having only his third outing over hurdles. Even allowing for his 37 lengths losing margin, his final circuit time (3.52.1) came out only just worse than the following maiden hurdle won by King Roland (3.51.6), such was the tempo of the race he ran in and having been given what appears a workable mark of 109 for his first attempt in this sphere, the lightly-raced five-year-old makes plenty of each-way appeal in what looks a fairly weak affair.
