David Cottin kicked off his season in tremendous style with three winners at Compiegne, so it should pay to keep an eye on his two representatives here, Queen Du Berlais and Baronne Du Berlais. Based on jockey booking alone, the former maybe the one to take home the stable bragging rights and this daughter of Muhtather, who has a pedigree that should impart plenty of speed, rates one of the most interesting runners on the card for powerful connections. The latter is more stoutly bred but is still worth noting both for today and the future. A Babord hails from a yard that also does well in races of this nature and the daughter of Balko is also worth a look in the market.

A decent field assembled for this conditions chase and it could well be that the only filly in the line-up, Nanosecond comes out on top. Showing progressive form with every outing last season, the daughter of Doctor Dino rounded off her campaign with a gutsy success over today’s course on her chase debut and, with stamina the key component to her game that day, the extra half a mile she faces on her return visit should suit.

Crack French National Hunt trainer Guillaume Macaire sends two interesting runners to post, namely Galant Du Chenet and Arbarok and of the pair, the former makes the most appeal. A regular here at the Bois De Boulogne venue, the son of Martaline showed stamina was his number one asset when coming from off the pace to land a competitive affair back in February and that ability to stay well bodes well for the examination this afternoon. The latter, although not totally dismissed, was rather disappointing at Compiegne when last seen and has also questions to ask regards the trip.

GOCHETIAL (best price 6-1) is held strictly on the evidence of his latest encounter with the favourite, but that doesn’t mean to say he can be totally ignored over a trip that should suit. The son of Doctor Dino has confirmed his liking for today’s track many times over and he looks one for the each-way merchants based on the early tissue prices.

There’s a few lurking down the foot of the weights that could prove troublesome, but the safest option is to look towards those who have been there and got the t-shirt over today’s C&D, namely DENOMEDENUO (best price 10-1) and James Bu Berlais. The duo have clashed twice in recent times with the scores level, and there doesn’t appear much to separate the pair once again. On their first encounter back in November, the latter took advantage of his light weight and valuable track position by kicking clear at a vital stage and it very much looked like he was going to repeat the dose 104 days later. However, on that occasion, his old rival gained his revenge with a well-timed challenged late on and looking at the prices this morning, the value most definitely lies with the top weight. In the frame in all five starts, including three over the C&D, the son of Crossharbour is fancied to maintain his consistent level of form and rates a must for all each-way players with five places on offer with most firms.

Guillaume Macaire looks to hold all the aces in this three-year-old listed hurdle saddling the experienced pair Nimes and Yes Indeed. The former created a favourable impression when scoring at the first time of asking at Compiegne and is likely to take plenty of stopping in his bid to supplement those gains. Handy with a circuit to run 75 days ago, the son of Saint De Saints picked up the running approaching two out and from that point onwards the result never looked in any serious doubt. A slick jumper with a useful turn of foot, this precocious juvenile should be capable of keeping his unbeaten run intact.

The latter showed plenty of promise on his debut despite getting well beaten in the end and he looks the most obvious threat to the favourite. Unable to cope with the powerful finish of the eventual winner, he also seemed to take a good blow after looking the most likely winner at the last, so he should be better equipped to cope with that all-important run under his belt.

Figeuro absolutely loves it here and he should make a bold bid to rack up win number six at the Paris-based track. Since fitted with headgear, the five-year-old has gone on a run which began last March all the way through last season and among his victories came a Grade 1 success to the tune of 30 lengths back in November. Good enough to cope with the drop back in trip in his latest outing 119-days later, the son of Yeats has everything in his favour to continue his way up the ladder.

Ebonite is another who loves it around this track and she rates the most likely to take advantage of any slip-ups by the favourite. The daughter of Khallkevi clearly revels in soft ground, highlighted by her cosy success at the Bois De Boulogne venue 63 days ago, and at the very worst she should confirm form with Poly Grandchamp.

Carriacou is a fairly useful chaser on his day and it’s probably wise to cast aside his slightly below-par effort here 70 days ago as he looked badly in need of the run. Prior to that outing which would have served the purpose of blowing away the cobwebs, the eight-year-old had pinged in two comfortable victories over today’s C&D this time last year so on that basis he’s hard to totally dismiss despite the nagging doubt he’s more effective over further

Some useful and progressive fillies on show for this listed prize and the morning prices reflect the general competitiveness.

Seduction has been chalked up favourite and while there is a case to be made for her of sorts, whether she’s quite good enough to justify her position in the market remains to be seen. Well-backed to get the job done back over fences at Fontainebleau last time out, the daughter of Evasive proved the money in her direction was spot on with a convincing display and its now just a question of whether she can raise her game again up in class and back over hurdles (well held in a Grade 3 previously).

Kalmia has raced exclusively over today’s course, with one win and three placed efforts her most productive achievements, and on the pick of her best form she would have some sort of chance of being competitive. Her latest performance, however, doesn’t exactly instil a massive amount of confidence – albeit she may have needed the run – and there might be a few others with a shade more potential.

Of those, KATY LOVE (best price 8-1) has yet to run here, but she does boast some useful form against some quality opposition in four starts and she looks the type who could easily make her presence felt in a tightly-knit affair. Impressive in victories either side of her only defeat up against the smart Nanosecond (runs earlier in the card) at Compiegne back in November, the Enrique filly appears to have a decent attitude her undoubted ability and she’s certainly worth a crack at this level based on her upwardly mobile profile.

Zialight failed to justify odds-on favouritism over today’s C&D last time but she remains unexposed and it would be dangerous to dismiss her out of hand totally, while Philanthrope comes into the equation on her runner-up spot in a listed contest here two starts ago.
