Horse racing expert Andy Holding has four tips for today's action
DAVID GARRICK (best price 6-1) failed in his bid to build on his previous victory over today’s C&D at Navan last time out, but at the same time, not all horses take the stiff contours of the Co Meath venue and he’s afforded another chance now returning to the scene of his career-high effort.
A creditable fourth in a red-hot handicap at the Curragh back in July behind the likes of Sonnyboyliston and Thundering Nights, Edward Harty’s gelding was fully entitled to go well off the back of that display when arriving at the Co Mallow venue a month later and having made smooth headway to track the leaders going well turning for home, he duly pulled clear of his field to land the prize. Not quite at his sharpest for one reason or another 18 days ago, his performance in finishing just outside the money was probably only a 6 out of 10 at best, but with the ground drying out in his favour back on a flatter surface, the son of Zoffany can get back on track against a field that doesn’t contain too many superstars.
An above-average listed race by some margin and even though she faces plenty of potential improvers, namely Montatham and Epic Hero, POSTED (best price 20-1) is still fancied to more than hold her own over a track that witnessed her being a bit unlucky last time out.
Held up towards the rear at the Esher venue 24 days ago, Richard Hannon’s filly was set what appeared an impossible task in a slowly-run affair, but finishing off her race best of all, she came home in the fastest split time from four out to be a never-nearer fifth at the line and that effort has to go down as a very commendable one under the circumstances. Although not prolific by any means, she has got plenty of solid form in the book at this level and being as most of her best efforts have come at this time of year, the daughter of Kingsman could turn out to be the surprise package at a big price.
DELICATE KISS (best price 8-1) has yet to win at today’s track in eight starts but given her form figures at the Esher track read 322226242, there’s a decent chance she will provide each-way punters with a decent run for their money.
Sent off a large-looking 33-1 here last time, the daughter of Delegator was bang in contention to cause the upset just over a furlong out, but unable to sustain her challenge, she ended up just finishing outside the frame in fourth. However, as the time figure of the race revealed, it was a fair effort in defeat, and a repeat should see her right in the thick of the action again on her return visit.
