Looking back at how that race panned out last week and in hindsight, he probably paid for chasing a very hot pace and also drifting on to the slowest ground in the home straight when the first two came wide to challenge, so his losing margin was probably exacerbated. Back on a genuinely better surface and with hopefully a more conservative ride, this improving three-year-old can put it up to the favourite at the very least.

BIG BABY BULL (best price 5-1) has already captured a big seven-furlong handicap so far this season and following another massive effort at Leopardstown last time out, there’s more than a fair chance Denis Hogan’s gelding can add to his impressive tally of results.

Formerly with Richard Hannon in the UK, the son of Tagula didn’t waste too much time making an impact for new connections when he beat a stellar field in a premier handicap at the Curragh on just his second start from his Tipperary base. Undone by the draw and mile trip in two visits to Galway, the four-year-old bounced back to something like his best form at the Dublin venue last time out when staying on very strongly from the back of the field to finish a never-nearer fourth in arguably the hottest race of its kind run so far this season and considering his performance was achieved coming out of stall 20, his effort needed a serious upgrade. Given his three best runs now have all coincided with seven-furlongs on good ground, today’s conditions should prove ideal and housed favourably also in stall 2, the likeable chestnut should turn out to be major contender with a clear passage.
