Durrell is very much the sexy one among this eight-strong field, but despite his form claims, his lack of experience over today’s course might just prove his undoing and he’s passed over at the prices in favour of CHARLIE ARTHUR (best price 5-1) and BLOWING DIXIE (best price 9-2) who have both shown a preference for this unique surface in the past.

The former is unbeaten here in three previous visits and has a consistent profile that also suggests he’s likely to run his race more than some. Indeed, his latest effort when seen chasing home the progressive Myseven at Kempton has to be regarded as solid form and it also went a long way to proving that he stays 1m4f well. Obviously that sort of trip on today’s slower fibresand is a totally different kettle of fish, but so well does he travel on the surface that he’s likely to be able to stay in his comfort zone longer than most and in any case, his morning price more than compensates for the slight risk.

The latter has no question marks regarding the trip, it’s just whether his new connections can get him back to something approaching the level he once was when with Jane Chapple Hyam. When he was at his best in 2019, the son of Dubawi was pretty devastating around today’s venue, as form figures of 13112 testify, and now back on an attractive mark with a couple of recent runs under his belt, he’s likely to go better than his odds suggest.

CAPE CRECO (NAP) (best price 7-1) endured a pretty rough passage on his latest visit to tonight’s venue back in August but following a couple of confidence boosters which have seen him back on the podium, Gay Kellaway’s gelding can show his true worth at a track he clearly enjoys.

A previous C&D winner just prior to lockdown, the son of Cape Blanco was a warm order to add to his impressive track stats but after being shuffled back through the pack early - which resulted in him being in a poor position rounding the home turn - he was unable to make an impact in the home straight. That said, he did make some nice late gains towards the nearside rail after being forced wide and that effort, along with his two fine runner-up spots at Wolverhampton and Kempton recently make him a very tempting each-way proposition at the morning odds.
