Back Wayfinder at 11-4
WAYFINDER (best price 11-4) did precious little wrong on his chase debut at Ffos Las and he looks ready to strike with that all-important run under his belt.
A game winner of a soft-ground, three-mile handicap hurdle at Hereford last season, Rebecca Curtis’ gelding left the impression he was only marking time over the smaller obstacles and having jumped well at the Welsh venue 26 days ago, it’s safe to say he should scale even greater heights in his new discipline. Although he found one too good in the shape of the race-fit Sizing At Midnight, he impressed with the way he conducted himself throughout the three-mile journey and with today’s more demanding track likely to play more to his strengths, it would be disappointing if he didn’t go close to getting off the mark over fences with a clear round.
Guard Your Dreams my NAP at 13-8
Having monitored a good deal of these early season novice hurdles, it’s apparent that many of the winners have had some sort of experience and fitness edge of their side, so with that in mind, it makes sense to stick with GUARD YOUR DREAMS (NAP) (best price 7-4) to deliver the goods again back at the scene of his opening triumph.
Runner-up to the crazily impressed bumper winner Bear Ghylls (won at Lingfield over hurdles last week) at Warwick on his debut last season, the son of Fame And Glory was up against several well-fancied horses from powerful stables at the Welsh venue a month ago and in what turned out to be a strongly-run affair courtesy of the exploits of Presentandcounting, he stayed on stoically in the final half a mile to record a convincing success. Well clear of the third and with the time figure speaking in favourable terms, it’s clear Nigel Twiston-Davies’ gelding ran to a fair level on his first hurdling attempt and with the likelihood of even more to come with that initial outing under his belt, he’s fancied to have too many guns for Percy’s Word, for whom the testing ground is likely to find him out.
