LADY DE VESCI (best price 4-1) has been a fairly consistent performer at this level at today’s venue over the years and another solid display looks on the cards based on her latest effort here 24 days ago.

Well-fancied to take advantage of a drop back into claiming company, Michael Halford’s mare could only keep on at the one pace late on when third behind Gee Rex, but as she was the only one of those who raced up with the speed to make any sort of impact, her performance deserves extra praise. Moreover, the time figure of the race was very good for the grade and with both the winner and runner-up going on to score since, the daughter of Approve will hopefully do her bit for the form.

Back Woodrow at 8-1

WOODROW (best price 8-1) hasn’t run too badly on both his two starts at today’s track and although he does lack a bit of experience for a race of this nature, he might just have enough ability at a fairly low level to offset that negative and make some sort of impact.

Not quite good enough for the blue-blooded United Front on his first start at the Co Lough venue, the son of Ivawood was pitched into a far more realistic level here last time out and although he failed to finish in the frame, his performance in finishing a close-up fifth was easily his best so far to date. Keeping on well just behind the main players, the three-year-old colt was up against several who were knocking out some useful fractions for the grade and having come out of that above-average heat with a workable mark of 60, he’s fancied to exploit that rating at some stage during the winter.

HERMOCRATES (best price 3-1) took well to tonight’s surface at the first time of asking on the evidence of his display here 13 days ago and providing he stays the extra two furlongs of tonight’s contest, John Mackie’s inmate should turn out to be a big player.

A previous winner on the all-weather at Wolverhampton, the son of Farhh went through the fibresand surface like he’s been running on it all his life and even though he couldn’t quite get on terms with the aggressively ridden Notation, he kept on strongly all the way to the line. Looking at his figures in isolation compared to the likes of Beat The heat, Thawry, Sea Of Mystery and Artistic heat, who all ran on the round track on the same card, and they reveal the four-year-old was miles quicker at all points on the course and having run well on his two other previous outings over 1m6f, confidence is high he can pull all the strands together on his return to the Midland venue.
