VISALA (best price 7-2) had a really good initiation on her debut at Lingfield 12 days ago and with expected improvement to come, she looks the one to be with against the boys in this seven-furlong maiden.
Slowly into stride and green in the early stages at the Surrey venue, William Haggas’ filly began to make some headway coming down the hill and although she couldn’t quite get with striking distance of the main players in the home straight, she still finished her race off with enough encouragement for the future. Indeed, the last three furlongs according to the ATR website were the best sectionals on the card, so with that in mind, she should have enough pace to cover whatever is thrown at her here this afternoon.

The last two performances of DRAKENSBERG (best price 9-4) have strongly hinted that he’s coming back to something approaching his best and now dropping back into a grade that he should find a good deal more compatible than the one he faced here last week, Tony Martin’s gelding is fancied to notch up win number three at today’s venue. 

A back-to-back winner here last winter – both over the same C&D – the son of Samum hasn’t managed to register a victory so far this term, but following a promising effort when third behind the in-form Moving Forward over an inadequate trip two starts ago, he went on to run a good deal better than his finishing position suggested last time out. Held up in midfield in what turned out to be a well-run affair, the six-year-old kept on steadily all the way down the straight to finish just in behind the main players but when you consider the winner was knocking out the best set of final three furlong sectionals on the eight-race card, it’s little wonder he managed to find just the one pace. Back at a fairly modest level and with connections signalling their intent by going out of their way to book the apprentice find of the season, Sam Ewing, the chestnut gelding looks to have obvious claims in a race where only a handful make any sort of appeal.
