Time may tell HAMUNDARSON (best price 7-4) finished behind two very smart novices in the shape of Blue Lord and Julies Stowaway over today’s C&D last time out and with nothing seemingly of that calibre against him this afternoon, he looks to have a big chance to make it second time lucky over hurdles.

Runner-up in two bumpers, Gordon Elliott’s gelding was quietly fancied to make an impact against the big two in the betting here 14 days ago and for the thick end of two miles he looked like he might take away the prize. Travelling up going well turning for home, he ended up paying for trying to go with the favourite on the run down to the last as he eventually faded into third on the run-in, but it was still a fine effort in the context of today’s race. On the evidence of that display he clearly has a fine engine, he just needs delivering at the right moment.

ARCHIES CHARM (best price 14-1) may have only won a minor race at Limerick last time out, but the time figure he clocked in victory suggests he’s a fair prospect in the making and based on his number that day, he appears to have flown significantly under the radar.

Always travelling well at the Greenmount Park venue, Brian Hamilton’s gelding swept to the front on the approach to two out and then with the minimum of fuss he was away and gone within the twinkling of an eye. Winning with plenty in hand, he proved he can handle a well-run contest on heavy ground and with today’s race likely to be run at a sound clip, he should have the necessary qualities to make some sort of impact.

LOVING DREAM (best price 6-1) could never land a blow on her debut at Kempton largely thanks to a horrendous beginning but with the strong possibility of her knowing a good deal more second time around, John Gosden’s filly is expected to leave that run well behind.

In-keeping with many from her stable, she left her race at the start 27 days ago, but what was encouraging was how she finished off her race in the closing stages. Last turning for home, she swept by many of her rivals in the final two-furlongs without being restored to a hard ride and with tonight’s more galloping track likely to see her in a better light, a decent break should see her competitive right from the start.

GRANGECLARE VIEW (best price 11-1) shaped with a good deal more promise than his finishing position suggested at Chelmsford on his debut and providing he takes to today’s surface at the first time of asking, he may have sufficient qualities to hold his own against several well-regarded counterparts.

Drawn widest of all at the Essex venue 26 days ago, Richard Fahey’s colt was dropped out by design to give him the best possible education throughput the seven-furlong journey and if he hadn’t had been repeatedly checked in his run towards the latter stages of the contest, it’s not that difficult to come to the conclusion he would have been involved in the fight for the minor medals so well was he travelling. The way he cruised along without much effort strongly hinted there’s a decent engine underneath his significant frame and with a better break from the gates here this evening, hopefully he can prove he’s a fine prospect in the making.
