PAPER PROMISE (best price 13-2) didn’t shape too badly on her first start for 284 days at Kelso earlier in the month and gone well over today’s course a couple of times in the past, she looks poised to do so again under ideal conditions.

Winner of a bumper here back in 2018, Donal Whillans’ mare also struck over hurdles at Newcastle a year later and although she failed to add to that success last season, she wasn’t disgraced in any of her four outings. Sometimes a little keen in her races, it was a surprise, therefore, to see her fail to latch on to the bridle in the early stages of her most recent encounter at the Borders venue 15 days, but she did manage to finally engage and work her way towards the leaders with a mile to race. Unfortunately, the daughter of Gamut couldn’t sustain her effort and she ended up getting tired late on in the heavy ground but it was still an encouraging performance and hopefully with that all-important run under her belt, a return to today’s flatter track on slight better ground will aid her cause.

TIN HAT (best price 9-2) couldn’t be described as prolific by any stretch of the imagination but he has the capabilities to run to a decent level on his day and with one of his better performances on the figures coming over today’s course last time out, the son of Helmet can reward each-way support with another solid display.

Racing over a trip just further than his optimum, Eve Johnson Houghton’s chestnut raced prominently in what turned out to be a strongly-run seven-furlong handicap and even though he ultimately got overpowered by a couple of rivals late on, to end up finishing third to the highly-progressive Fox Duty Free can hardly be described as a backward step. Considering the speed figure the race at the Surrey venue produced and, it was his first run for 133 days, his effort can be commended even further and now returning to his best trip of six-furlong with Georgia Dobie back on board, the four-year-old should be capable of putting up a bold display.
