VINA BAY (best price 9-2) has failed to attract the attention of the judge as of yet, but that doesn’t mean to say he hasn’t shaped with any amount of promise and he’s fancied to make some sort of impact now he faces more realistic company on handicap debut. 

A no show when a 150-1 poke on debut at Kempton, Sylvester Kirk’s gelding showed a good deal more second time around over today’s track when fifth in quite a hot little affair a month later. Again in quite deep on his return to the same C&D last time out, the son of New Bay once again caught the eye with the way he finished off his race from the rear of the field and considering he also ran off the home turn and forfeited quite a bit of ground, his effort can be upgraded. On each of his last two performances, the well-made three-year-old has indicated a step up in trip wouldn’t go amiss and with what appears a fair handicap mark to start off proceedings, he’s worth a small interest to see how he gets on in his new vocation.

JEANETTE MAY (NAP) (best price 3-1) had to go down as a pretty unlucky loser here last time out and she’s afforded another opportunity to back up that view and regain the winning thread. 

Dropped out from her high draw at the Sunbury venue 14 days ago, William Stone’s mare found herself with an impossible-looking task as the field swung for home, but such was her finishing effort down the straight, she managed to salvage something from the wreckage with an honourable runner-up spot. Clearly in fine fettle on the evidence of that display, her previous effort when third over the same C&D reads well in the context of today’s race and with Hollie Doyle always worth more than a second look when she teams up with the West Wickham handler, the daughter of Dick Turpin can keep her impressive tracks stats intact (3332) at the main expense of Shyjack, who caused a 40-1 shock here the other night.
