Our horse racing expert Andy Holding has two tips for today's meetings.
TAKE ALL (best price 13-2) may have well obliged but for a last flight fall here last time out and providing his confidence hasn’t take a dip, Seamus Fahey’s gelding can go some way to make amends.
A big improver since the addition of a hood has rather curbed his natural enthusiasm, the son of Golden Lariat only had to wait three starts before the new headgear had an effect and that impressive win at Cork back in November prompted another solid effort at an even higher grade at Leopardstown next time. Outpointed by some classier types at Navan next time, the six-year-old was back among handicap company at the Newtown Road venue 67 days ago and having travelled like the best horse throughout, an untimely tumble while he was just holding a slight advantage was undeserving to say the least. Given time to recover, he now heads back to the scene of that exit with conditions very much in his favour and with the race full of performers who couldn’t exactly call themselves prolific, Take All rates a fair each-way play at the morning odds.
LOGO HUNTER (best price 7-2) has been one of the finds of the season in the sprinting division over in Ireland and having proved he belongs in pattern company at Navan last time out, Michael Browne’s inmate is fancied to keep up the good recent work.
Lightly-race at two, the son of Brazen Beau did manage to finish just behind top-class pair Measure Of Magic and Miss Amulet on his final start, but that was back in July so we didn’t really know what to expect this season. Switched to his new surroundings and fitted with a tongue-tie, the three-year-old gelding made an immediate impact by winning off a 224-day break at Dundalk and his following three performances have all suggested he continue to improve and thrive. His latest two turf efforts have seen him beat a useful field at Cork and chase home the massively-improved Measure Of Magic at Navan and with the latter of those efforts coming at listed level, it puts into context how far he’s come in a short space of time (gone from a rating of 85 to 105). A strong traveller who’s equally effective six furlongs as well as a stiff five, his high draw today should help him track the likely pace set by Make A Challenge down the centre to nearside of the track and if he comes home as well as he has been doing of late, he should be bang in the thick of the action at the business end.
