HORTZADAR (NAP) (best price 9-2) really burst into life this time last season and on the evidence of what we saw of him in the Royal Hunt Cup at Ascot last time out, David O’Meara’s gelding could be about to reignite the flame in this slightly weaker affair.

Despite running a nice race when runner-up at Epsom previously, the six-year-old went into the top-class mile event at the Berkshire venue as an unconsidered 80-1 chance and although he never threatened to make a mockery of that starting price, he did more than enough to suggest it might have been a different story had he received anything like a clear run. Held up towards the rear in his usual fashion, the son of Sepoy was noted travelling strongly approaching the final three furlongs but soon running onto a wall of horses dropping back into his lap, he literally had to sit and suffer from that point onwards. Finishing full of running, he left the impression he may well have had a say in the final outcome with a smoother passage and he’s fancied to press home that theory back at a track where he was so cruelling denied last season (weighed in 4lb light after winning a competitive handicap).

Like many of her stable mates, TRIPLE NICKLE (best price 7-4) is turning into a bit of standing dish at today’s Welsh track and following her second career success in just four starts, Bernard Llewellyn’s mare has a decent chance of making it three.

A winner on her second outing here last August, her only poor run came when she found the combination of two miles and soft ground counting against her two months ago. Back in the groove since, the daughter of So You Think was well-supported to back up her encouraging effort at Lingfield previously when returning to her old stomping ground two weeks later and despite slight reservations about the 1m2f journey being too short, she overcame those fears with aplomb. Despite being headed just over a furlong out, she rallied to the cause to get back up close home and a victory of that nature can only bode well for her now she’s stepping back up to her optimum distance.
