The Andrew Balding trained BERKSHIRE SHADOW(best priced at 7-2) is top rated of these two-year-olds and I think he will prove hard to beat despite losing his unbeaten record last time. The son of Dark Angel won at Newbury on his debut over 5f before winning the Group 2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot by 1 ½ lengths when stepped up to 6f. He didn’t appear to enjoy the step up to 7f on soft ground at Goodwood in the Vintage Stakes last time but was still able to close to within a length of Angel Bleu at the finish who was better positioned throughout the race.
Lusail is also penalised in this race for his success in the July Stakes at Newmarket and also won over this course and distance on debut but I think this return to 6f on faster ground will really suit Berkshire Shadow and I expect him to get back to winning ways.

The Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes has an international flavour to it this year with the presence of both Golden Pal and Suesa but I much prefer the claims of WINTER POWER (best priced at 13-2) at a bigger price. The Tim Easterby trained filly is 2/2 over this course and distance so far this season with an impressive three length win on her reappearance and a comfortable victory last time by a length from the reopposing Moss Gill.
As a three-year-old filly, Winter Power receives weight from most of the field in this race and should be seriously considered given her rating of 114. Hopefully Silvestre De Sousa has learnt from Royal Ascot that he doesn’t have to get involved in a pace burn-up and she should at least hit the frame with up to five places on offer

This looks an extremely competitive three-year-old handicap to close the card but preference goes to the Owen Burrows trained WISHAAH (best priced at 9-2). The son of Oasis Dream made a winning debut at Kempton in June defeating the favourite Beheld despite doing a lot wrong during the race before just failing to catch the leader in a novice race at Newcastle on his next start under a penalty.
Wishaah bounced back to form last time on his handicap debut with a two length victory at Newmarket and the form of that race is working out well. He beat Sibaaq by two lengths that day and that rival won on his next start and the third Arqoob also won on his next start at Leicester. The handicapper has raised him 6lb for that victory which is fair and he should run well for an in-form yard who have had two winners and two seconds from their previous six runners.
