This looks a competitive 0-60 handicap but I feel like bookmakers have the market leader Pop Favorite and Hellavapace (best priced at 9/2) the wrong around. The Jonny Portman trained three-year-old is a consistent performer who got off the mark at the tenth attempt 18 days ago over this course and distance. The filly went for a daring run between horses entering the final furlong and was hampered but recovered to win by a cosy neck under Rob Hornby at the finish.

The handicapper has raised Hellavapace 4lb for that victory and back in third that day was the reopposing Pop Favorite. That rival has since won at Chelmsford on his next start and runs here under a 6lb penalty which actually makes him 2lb wrong at the weights given his revised rating of 59. Pop Favorite therefore needs to reverse form with Hellavapace from this course and distance 18 days ago despite now being 3lb worse off at the weights. Richard Kingscote takes over on Hellavapace and she is expected to prove hard to beat from Stall 7.

Hellavapace - 0.5pts e/w @ 9/2

The favourite Jordan Electrics has been running consistently well this season but is now high enough in the weights and looks vulnerable dropped back down in trip to 5f for this race. Preference instead goes to the Jim Goldie trained Primo’s Comet (best priced at 10/3) who has similarly been running consistently well this season but looks an out and out 5f sprinter. The six-year-old has won twice over this course and distance this season and his latest effort resulted in a close (beaten ¾ length) 3rd placed finish off a mark of 74.

The handicapper has raised the gelding 1lb for that effort which seems fair and it is interesting that he is now fitted with cheekpieces for the first time since winning at Wolverhampton in November 2018. Paul Mulrennan rode Primo’s Comet to his last victory in June and is now back on board and he should have too much pace for the favourite over this trip.

Primo's Comet - 1pt @ 10/3

The Heather Main trained Polar Cloud (best priced at 6/4) bounced back from a below par run on turf to win over 1m6f at Wolverhampton 8 days ago and should prove hard to beat under a 5lb penalty. The son of Mount Nelson looked to have benefitted from the step up in trip to 1m6f that day to win by a widening 5 ½ lengths at the finish and the handicapper has raised the gelding 9lb for that effort.

The five-year-old runs here under a 5lb penalty instead which makes him 4lb “well in” at the weights here and he should also relish the further step up in trip to 2 miles. Polar Cloud is the class horse in this 0-60 handicap off a revised rating of 71 and he should prove extremely hard to beat.

Polar Cloud - 2pts @ 7/4
