Our horse racing expert Andy Holding has two tips for today's action, one selection running at Ripon and a NAP at Newton Abbot.
CLOUDY ROSE (best price 13-2) has still to record a victory in eight starts, but there’s no doubt she’s getting closer and today’s contest, over a trip she stayed well last time, provides her with a decent opportunity to break her duck.
Steadily progressing as the distance bar has been raised, John Berry’s mare backed up that view when keeping on nicely over 1m6f at Yarmouth two starts ago and from that sound foundation, she went on to record her best effort so far to date at Nottingham last time. In what turned out to be an extremely strongly run raced for the grade, the daughter of Proconsul was the one to offer any kind of resistance to the in-form Yagood in the final half a mile, and with the pair pulling well clear of the rest, her performance from out of the handicap deserves quite a bit of praise. Considering the winner is now rated 71 and has gone ono compete well against Class 4 opposition since, the three-year-old chestnut can hardly be viewed as being harshly treated here today off a mark of just 52 and with her stamina well and truly proven, it would be a shade disappointing if she weren’t good enough to make the frame at the very least.

Chez Hans has been extremely well placed in racking up a winning sequence of five and while a huge amount of respect is afforded Paul Nicholls’ in-form five-year-old, he’s no penalty kick to make it six on the spin up against a similarly rampant SOLSTALLA (NAP) (best price 9-4).
A three-time winner herself this summer, the nine-year-old’s spree began in smooth style when scoring over today’s track back in June and she’s showed no signs of slowly down ever since. Victories over the brush hurdles at both Southwell and Worcester followed and even though her winning run was halted back at the latter venue nine days ago, the numbers suggested she’d run close to a personal high. Staying on well in the latter stages, she kept the smart winner Champagne City honest all the way to the line, and with the speed figures pointing towards it being a very strong one for the grade and time of year, a repeat of something similar should see her prove a handful for her three opponents.
