Haydock Park hosts an action-packed card on Saturday afternoon with the Group 1 Sprint Cup Stakes as the feature race of the day, where Starman will be looking to land his second Group One under Tom Marquand. He was last seen finishing a close third in the Maurice de Gheest in France and prior to that won the July Stakes well at HQ, confirming himself as a high-class sprinter for Ed Walker. He is the most likely winner but preference from an each-way perspective, getting four places, is for the Andrew Balding-trained CHIL CHIL (best price 18-1).
She impressed on her only visit to the Berkshire venue last year and hasn’t looked back since, winning a Group 3 at Newcastle before producing solid efforts in both the July Cup at Newmarket and Nunthorpe Stakes at York the last two times, finishing strongly on each occasion. She’s improving at a rate of knots and with draw, track, trip and conditions all in her favour, Andrew Balding’s underestimated mare should bridge the gap on the odds-on favourite and looks the each-way value with improvement to come as she is out to rubberstamp her place as one of the most improved sprinters of the division this term.

A lot of well-handicapped rivals return to face each other in this tricky sprint handicap, and preference is for course-specialist CLIFFS OF CAPRI (best price 11-2) who can roll back the years and extend his excellent record around his favourite hunting ground with a bold display in the Careys Foundation Supporting The Lighthouse Club Handicap.
He could never land a blow at York last time but was forced to race wide from an early stage and is better judged on his previous efforts here, including his overall record over course-and-distance reading 1513424, with all of those in-the-frame efforts coming in large-field handicaps. He ran an almighty race to finish fourth of 19 in the International Stakes here in July from a mark of 97 and filled the runner-up spot from the same mark a year earlier in the exact same event. He’s three-pound lower in this much easier assignment and goes particularly well for Dougie Costello, who is reunited with the seven-year-old. His main danger could emerge from the likes of Maxi Boy, another well-handicapped individual but, at the current prices, he looks great each-way value to at the very least, reach the frame.

MONDAMMEJ (best price 11-2) has been knocking on the door of late in big-field handicaps, including when fifth at York last time and, having threatened to get his head in front in a valuable pot this term, this could be opportunity he’s finally waited for with a lot in his favour.
He was desperately unlucky at Ascot in July when a close-up third in a competitive event from only a two-pound lower mark. He was held-up in rear on the stands’ side and didn’t get a clear run when travelling strongly before bursting out of the wreckage to be nearest the finish. That form has worked out strongly, with the fourth - Tis Marvellous, winning the Beverley Bullet since. This four-year-old did well to finish as close as he did behind Copper Knight at York last time, considering he raced in last and finished with a power-placed surge to not be beaten all that far in the final few strides. This quirky but talented sprinter has been left on the same mark and, provided Cam Hardie holds him up off what seems likely to be a strong pace, he should go close to getting his head in front.

A competitive field assembled for this valuable prize, the Iron Stand British EBF Premier Fillies' Handicap, but it could pay to concentrate on a couple of potential improvers in the shape of both RISING STAR (best price 15-2) and PASSIONOVA (best price 6-1).
The former, trained by Marco Botti, has yet to finish outside the top-three in all completed starts (debut effort can be excused) and has now won two of her three outings over a mile, too. She has gone from strength to strength this year, who recorded her first turf success at Musselburgh in July and backed it up with an excellent third off a seven-pound higher mark at York just over a couple of weeks ago when conceding plenty of weight to the first and second. A return to a mile will suit her better and given the fact that the assessor has left her mark alone with a valuable claimer taking off three-pounds, she should be firmly in the mix.
As for the latter, trained by George Baker, she was given a considerate introduction on debut over the minimum trip on the all-weather when sixth but improved plenty when scooting clear to win by over five-lengths back at the same venue when upped in trip. She then went up an extra furlong when tested in a sixteen-runner event at Newmarket and powered clear to win by a length. The runner-up, Sweet Enough, boosted the form by winning at York subsequently and her second at Haydock last time in a listed event was a commendable effort considering the ground went against her in the build-up to the race (first run on soft) but she acquitted herself really well to finish a clear second and, now venturing into handicapping from a lenient-looking mark of 92 back in grade, she merits serious consideration with more to offer.
19:00 Wolverhampton
BEAUZON (best price 7-1) caught the eye for a second time in a row at this venue last time when second over course-and-distance ten days ago and with a record of 432 at this venue from three outings, he looks poised to gain a breakthrough success here sooner rather than later.
He also ran with credit to finish third here on his penultimate outing after an awkward start and, having acquitted himself well in both starts at the West Midlands venue, David O’Meara’s charge must have an excellent chance of winning this. He’s performed with credit in stronger races than this all year, including when highly tried in a pair of class-2 events and, despite being up in grade, this unexposed two-year-old strikes me as being as horse capable of defying this mark of 70 and he’s worth an each-way bet against the market leaders.
