ALIOMAANA (best price 7-2) showed useful form when trained on the flat by John Gosden and made the transition to hurdling when an excellent third at Stratford a couple of weeks ago, where he may have finished second without a mistake at the last and can get off the mark with all the weight allowances in his favour in the opener.
His jumping wasn’t that great for a debutant but he travelled powerfully and did well to hold his position for so long considering the winner went off like a train from the outset. On a line through the winner, Fred Bear, he should be able to take advantage of the weight he will receive from his market rivals, so this three-year-old is fancied to open his account off bottom-weight with his useful claimer taking off a further three-pounds to help matters.

Guinness Affair is respected at the head of the market but Emma Lavelle’s BIGBADMATTIE (best price 9-4) was always travelling well before staying on strongly to open his account at Worcester last time and defy a penalty.
The seven-year-old has only seen a racecourse three times in his career but he offered plenty to work on when third of five in a Sligo bumper on his sole outing for Ellmarie Holden in 2018. He hadn’t been seen for three years until returning for his stable debut at Worcester, where he displayed substantial talent and looked like finishing a solid fourth until stumbling after the last and ending up on the floor. That said, he made amends comfortably next time over the same track and trip and, with that victory run under his belt and more to come, this son of Big Bad Bob is taken to follow-up.
14:40 York
IMPERIAL BLUE (best price 9-1) enhanced his fine record here when running a big race to finish third in the Sky Bet Apprentice Handicap over five-furlongs here at York’s Ebor meeting and, despite his best form coming over shorter thus far, Nigel Tinklers charge has sound each-way claims providing Faye McManoman, who takes off a favourable three-pounds, can consume enough of her mounts energy for the latter stages as he can travel too strongly for his own good at times.
This Gelding by Lethal Force is a habitual slow starter but he has plenty of early boot to recover quickly and go an end-to-end gallop which is likely to be in order here with confirmed pacesetters Ey Up It’s Maggie and Cottam Lane in the line-up. He was a good winner on his first visit to this venue as a two-year-old, albeit over shorter, but has winning form over six-furlongs, as demonstrated at Redcar around this time last year. He will appreciate the ease in grade and knowing that he acts effectively at this venue, while his mark remains workable, he should be thereabouts with four places widely on offer.
NOMADIC EMPIRE (best price 12-1) had no luck whatsoever in-running here when last spotted in an ultra-competitive event, eventually finishing midfield on the bridle, but was pulled out of a race during the week in favour of a return to this venue and compensation may await him granted better luck given he’s capable of high-class form at both this track and elsewhere on the evidence he’s displayed.
He was highly tried here as a two-year-old, in which he finished third on debut before filling the runner-up spot back here next time, albeit returning a beaten 1-2F chance. He then opened his account easily next time before running a creditable race when a close-up third in the Julia Graves Roses Stakes and, although winless since, his form has worked out strongly, including his half-a-length second to Winter Power in a listed event at Ayr, where he attempted to give her four-pounds in weight. The winner boosted the form by winning a Group 1 at the same meeting at York and his form looks just about the strongest form on display on a line through his earlier seasonal efforts behind Bedford Flyer and Winter Power. He looks pretty well-handicapped on all that evidence and looks good value to hit the frame getting four places.
