BULLET FORCE (best price 8-1) made a pleasing start when second behind promising winners in a pair of Sandown maidens and having landed the odds easily at Musselburgh two weeks ago, Karl Burke’s charge is a leading contender on handicap debut with more to offer.

He’s steadily improved with each outing and duly got off the mark when last spotted. That probably wasn’t the strongest of events but he had more in hand than the winning one-length margin indicated. An opening mark of 82 looks lenient and despite meeting rivals with untapped potential such as Modern Games and a few others, he should get a strong pace to aim at and his late finishing rattle might be enough to see him in the thick of the action in the opener.

Barry Geraghty, alongside other ex-professional jockeys, are back in the saddle in the hope of one last hurrah in the ex-professional jockeys event - the Mondialiste Leger Legends Classified Stakes.

I am keen to back Richard Fahey’s only runner on the card, DELPH CRESCENT (best price 12-1), who now competes in a lower grade than he’s been used to this term having tackled continuous class-4 assignments this term. His profile is rather patchy but he’s seven-pound below his last winning mark and all of his best form has been over a mile. Amy Ryan takes the ride and it would be no surprise to see this very quirky, but equally capable six-year-old be very competitive here.

Highfield Princess has improved out of all recognition this term and is heavily respected on the back of a career-best when second in a York Group 2 last time but the one horse of certain interest is JUST BEAUTIFUL (best price 9-2) who can provide trainer Ivan Furtado with his first pattern-class winner.

She wasn’t at her best when turned over at short odds when second at Deauville last time but the race was slowly run which wouldn’t have helped so she did extremely well under the circumstances to force the winner to pull out all the stops by going down by half-a-length. She had earlier won all of her first four starts over seven-furlongs before an excellent keeping-on sixth in the Group 1 Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket in July. This filly by Pride Of Dubai doesn’t do anything flashy but her willing attitude does overshadow that and she should arguably be a lot shorter in the market given she’s the top-rated in the field at 110 with the strongest form on display.

ROCK BOY GREY (best price 25-1) has taken a walk in the market overnight but that doesn’t diminish the interest on the top-weight despite his fitness remaining unknown following a ten-month break. He does, however, arrive here seeking a third consecutive victory having signed off his last campaign when beating the 91-rated Beyond Equal. That form alone makes his mark of 87 look attractive and although he might just need this outing and this race proving a much sterner test to his credentials, he may have even more to offer over this shorter distance as he often comes home strongly. He remains wildly overpriced in the finale with four places widely on offer.

WENTWORTH FALLS (best price 11-2) would surely have won a lot more valuable pots during his career granted a clearer passage due his hold-up style of racing but, nevertheless, he’s handicapped to strike and having produced some cracking efforts at this track in the past, alongside being a dual course-winner, this looks the right time for the grey to capitalise on his much reduced mark dropped into this grade at this venue for the first time. He scored here last June from an eight-pound higher mark, as well as running well in the Portland Cup twice over course-and-distance, in 2018 and 2019. He was narrowly denied in the greys’ race at Newmarket recently and knowing that this nine-year-old goes well for Connor Beasley, the pair partner can make the most of this good opportunity with up to four places generally available.

Colinton has improved for the return to all-weather of late and should prove tough to beat but Joey Haynes, regular rider of Just Beautiful - who runs at Doncaster, travels to the West Midlands venue for his only ride of the day in the shape of CAPRICIOUS (best price 28-1) who isn’t out of this by any stretch despite her odds suggesting otherwise.

This filly showed a lot of promise in her first couple of starts, including on debut here over a mile behind three horses who now rated 88, 94 and 92. She was then a promising third at Bath and, considering she’s been unable to match that form in two starts since, a return to the all-weather in this grade from a three-pound lower mark will significantly help her chances. Nicely drawn in stall three with the strongest form on display, courtesy of her fifth here on debut, she’s one to consider each-way at a big price.
