Just the seven runners go to post for the Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 Handicap but Michael Bell’s MAXI BOY (best price 5-1) is the only one of these to have established himself at Group 2/3 company. He has hinted that he’s ready to strike of late and can capitalise on the ease grade by gaining a second course win having scored here on debut as a two-year-old.
The four-year-old son of Oasis Dream, trained by Michael Bell, looked seriously promising back in 2019 on good ground as a two-year-old, where he won on debut at this venue before tackling the Group 2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot in which he was sent off just 14/1 behind some high-class individuals. He performed with credit, staying on to good effect and finished eighth of 17-runners. To upgrade his performance even further, the first ten home that day, with the exception of Michael Bell’s charge, are all now rated 100 plus and the race itself has produced multiple Group winners, including Group 1 winner Golden Horde. He then went on to finish an excellent third in the Group 2 Superlative Stakes at this track, where he only found Mystery Power (105) and Juan Elcano (108) too strong at the finish. He returned from a 15-month absence in October last year with a fast-finishing third on handicap debut off a mark of 96 and has posted two excellent efforts over this trip this term. Firstly, when a half-a-length second to 100-plus rated ‘Quintillus at Newmarket in a higher-graded affair before keeping on strongly to finish a close-up fifth in another good handicap at Ascot last time. He has, surprisingly, been eased a pound by the handicapper and can make his presence felt in this lower grade with track, trip and conditions right up his street.

It’s hard to rule out any of the three but there’s every chance MISTER TICKLE (best price 6-4) will be granted a soft lead and, given his bold assured jumping, which will stand him in good stead, Gary Moore’s charge is fancied to land the hat-trick.
Since the blinkers were fitted following a break and wind surgery, he’s really excelled over fences in which he’s dominated every rival the last two times, including over today’s course-and-distance. This will demand further improvement, but he’s going the right way and it’s hard to fault his determined attitude in both victories so in the expectation he can grab the lead and put his vital jumping technique to good use, this looks a good opportunity for the seven-year-old to continue his excellent run of form and make it three in a row under Niall Houlihan, who claims his valuable five-pounds.

BOMB PROOF (best price 11-4) was pulled out of a race over the weekend presumably in favour of this assignment and, having knocked on the door the last two times, Tom Marquand can guide him to success from the same mark.
He looked promising back in 2019/20 where he won his first couple of starts and despite the wheels falling off shortly after, he’s looked on good terms with himself the last twice. His third at Nottingham wasn’t a bad effort, while his second last time was another improved display as the form has worked out very strongly with a few subsequent winners in behind. On that evidence alone, his mark of 80 looks eminently workable as the third, fourth and fifth from that event are rated above 84. Grandfather Tom won this twelve months ago but this four-year-old has more improvement than most of these and should be a big player in this grade.
