There is no doubt that the Dermot Weld trained Radiyka sets the standard in this race but preference instead goes to TORN (best priced at 9-2) who is expected to improve from her debut effort at Naas. The daughter of Bated Breath finished 6th on her debut 23 days ago but made some eyecatching late headway under Sam Ewing giving the impression that she would improve greatly for the outing.
Colin Keane now takes over from the apprentice for the in-form Ger Lyons yard who are currently operating at a 28% strike rate in the previous two weeks in comparison to the Dermot Weld stable who are currently at a 13% strike rate. The pair also face the well bred newcomers Perfect Thunder and West Coast but I expect Torn to take a huge step forward from her debut and prove hard to beat in this race.

Despite not coming out best on weights and ratings in this race, I feel SHERKIN ISLAND (best priced at 5-2) is the one to beat in this race. The three-year-old receives weight from most of the field and she comes here following two good performances in maiden company. The Dermot Weld trained filly finished 3rd at the Curragh on soft to heavy ground when finding 1m2f too far before getting off the mark at Galway with an impressive 2 ½ length victory.
Sherkin Island was always in control that day and appreciated the better ground and the slight drop in trip. She runs here under similar conditions and despite needing to improve a couple of pounds on the ratings, I feel she looks the type to keep on improving this season. The Aidan O’Brien trained Cartouche looks the biggest danger if showing progression from two to three but she is best advised to be watched on her return from 329 days off the track and preference therefore goes to Sherkin Island who can follow up her Galway success.
