Steve Ryder is back with four selections for Saturday's racing.
13:33 Longchamp
THE REVENANT (best priced at 6-4) will be better suited if any of the forecast rain arrives before the Prix Daniel Wildenstein but he should still hold strong claims even on better ground. The six-year-old has won the previous two renewals of the race following 128 day and 350 day breaks and he has once again had his standard mid-season break in preparation for this race.
The field looks stronger than in previous years with the Godolphin pair Real World and Victor Ludorum deserving respect but The Revenant will have been targeted at this race for the whole season and should prove hard to beat in his hat-trick bid.
14:20 Newmarket
There is no doubt that the Ed Bethell trained FEARBY (best priced at 3-1) sets the standard in this valuable sales race and he should prove hard to beat with Ryan Moore taking over from PJ McDonald. The son of Havana Gold is well clear on ratings in this race with a mark of 104 and now drops down in class from running well in Group races throughout this season.
Fearby won the listed Dragon Stakes at Sandown in impressive style earlier this season before finishing 2nd in the Molecomb Stakes at Goodwood on soft ground. He has finished 4th in the Gimcrack Stakes and 3rd in the Mill Reef Stakes since but now drops down in class from those Group 2 races into a sales race. Despite running off top weight in this race, he is miles clear on adjusted ratings and should prove hard to beat.
15:15 Ascot
Ascot is forecast a huge amount of rain this afternoon and the more that arrives before 3:15 will be of benefit to GLEN SHIEL (best priced at 7-2). The Archie Watson trained gelding won the Champions Sprint over this course and distance on soft ground last season before finishing a length behind Dream Of Dreams in the Diamond Jubilee this year at Royal Ascot.
Glen Shiel can be excused his runs at both Newmarket in the July Cup and Haydock in the Sprint Cup as they were on good to firm ground and he should now be able to bounce back on softer ground. Both Great Ambassador and Bielsa have been impressive in handicaps this season but they now face a genuine Group 1 performer under his optimum conditions and that should make Glen Shiel extremely hard to beat.
16:05 Newmarket
The Andrew Balding trained MELLOW MAGIC (best priced at 12-1) is yet to win so far in her career but is now extremely interesting off an opening mark of 77 on her handicap debut. The daughter of Nathaniel should be suited by her first run on soft ground and the form of her previous runs is working out well.
Mellow Magic finished 3rd behind the 102 rated Aristia on debut, 2nd behind the 91 rated Oman on her second start, 2nd behind the 102 rated Sayyida over this course and distance on her third start, 3rd behind 104 rated Mandoob on her fourth start before slightly disappointing at Haydock last time following an 85 day break. She looks extremely well handicapped off an opening mark of 77 on some of her form earlier this season and looks worth taking a chance on at a double figure price.
