Chester Williams might not be able to claim his usual three-pounds’ and his mount was well-beaten on chase debut last month but BALKO SAINT (best price 3-1) was a very smart hurdler last term and having finished midfield in the Fred Winter at the Cheltenham Festival, this four-year-old will find this a lot easier and will have conditions to suit. His third in the Grade 2 Triumph Hurdle trial is the standout piece of form and, although he has to give four-pounds to Cobbler's Dream, Jane Williams' charge should give a good account of himself and may be able to get the better of the favourite with a run under his belt.

GOA LIL (best price 7-2) has already scored twice for us this year and owes us nothing but even though his jumping will be put under compulsion, I really do feel as though he can win this event off bottom-weight. He finally came good over fences when winning at Stratford in August when beating a subsequent winner and added to that tally at Perth last month over hurdles. He’ll need to find greater fluency back in this discipline but today’s right-handed track will help and he should get a good pace to aim at with Mercian Prince likely to go forward. This will be much tougher than his latest success but he’s a trier and he may yet have more to offer.
