13.45 Lingfield

BENNY AND THE JETS (best price 4-1) returns from a long absence but has won after a lay-off in the past and goes well on this surface. He posted a career-best when second in a stronger race than this when last spotted and the booking of Tom Marquand looks significant, too. This could turn out to be a tactical affair but he possesses a good turn of foot and, if able to return in the same form as when last seen, Simon Kirk’s likeable sprinter may have too many gears for this field.

CAFE SYDNEY (best price 5-2) has proved to be pretty much unbeatable around here with four wins from four starts at the venue and, being five-pound below her last winning mark, the five-year-old is fancied to make it win number five here against out-of-form opponents. This mare had shaped as though she’s back to form after a fast-finishing fourth at Wolverhampton last time and despite needing a touch of luck in-running as she likes to come from off the pace, Mollie Phillips can guide her to another victory at her beloved track.

This contest has a really open feel about it and a chance is taken on TOMMY TAYLOR (best price 14-1), who ran very well to finish fourth when last spotted here and, from a four-pound lower mark, this well-treated seven-year-old could represent a bit of each-way value. He hasn’t won since his three-year-old days but has performed consistently well in each start since joining this yard. He’s done all of his winning, placed efforts and other creditable performances from stiffer marks, including when rated as high as 107 in his prime. He’s drawn well in stall four and looks sure you go well at double-figure odds.
