Our horse racing expert Andy Holding has two tips for today's action including a NAP at Uttoxeter.
GET A TONIC (NAP) (best price 5-4) is a mare very much going in the right direction based on her two performances so far to date this season and even though today’s test will be anything but a stroll in the park, she’s fancied to more than hold her own up against the boys.
A promising runner-up to the useful Lady Adare over today’s course after a 211-day break back in October, Dan Skelton’s mare left the impression that she would probably be seen in a better light over further than two miles and that theory came to immediate fruition next time out at Leicester. Once again up against her own sex, the daughter of Getaway was well-supported to get the better of the useful Credo and several others with useful form lines and in what turned out to be a generously-run affair, she proved easily the best. Always travelling well at the Midland venue, the five-year-old stayed on particularly strong in the latter stages to pull seven lengths clear at the line and with the time figure pretty healthy for a race of its kind, clearly, the extra emphasis on stamina came to her aid in a big way. Running over the same distance returning to a track where she has already proven suits her well, this substantially-build mare can continue her progression with another notable success.
CATCHMEIFYOUCAN (best price 7-1) has put together a good series of decent results in recent times and now returning to a C&D where she’s enjoyed a bit of success in the past, Jenny Candlish’s mare should be capable of making her presence felt providing the ground doesn’t get too bad.
A dual winner in the summer months, her form looked to be tailing off slightly until bouncing back to something close to her best at Catterick last time out and with the numbers from that race at the Yorkshire track very good for the grade, a repeat of something similar would be good enough to see her in the mix. Indeed, the way she stayed on in the closing stages suggested she was only just getting warmed up in the dying embers of the race, and with her also being very strong in the final half a mile of her previous visit to today’s track, hopefully, her stamina can come to the fore when it matters most here this afternoon.
