This conditional handicap hurdle should present a decent chance for the Philip Hobbs-trained DAN’S CHOSEN (best price 7-2) to get on the scoresheet.

The form of this seven-year-old’s two recent efforts over timber have been positively advertised. Firstly, when second in a Chepstow maiden behind the highly-progressive Jetoile, who subsequently completed a double which led to a career-best display in the Grade 1 Tolworth Hurdle behind Supreme Novices’ Hurdle favourite Constitution Hill. He couldn’t quite match that form when a never-dangerous fifth at Uttoxeter last month but that form received a welcome boost when the winner, Get A Tonic, wasn’t disgraced when third in a strong-looking listed event at Cheltenham on New Years Day. The return to this longer trip allied with an opening mark of 112 to his name should be within range and therefore, with plenty more to offer, this low-mileage gelding should go very well here.

CHAMPAGNESUPEROVER (best price 9-2) is one of the two suggestions in the Sky Bet Novices' Limited Handicap Chase.

Olly Murphy’s charge was smart over hurdles with his best effort coming in the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival last year when seventh of sixteen. He was only a place behind subsequent Grade Two winner Threeunderthrufive and might have even finished fifth or sixth without a mistake at the last hurdle. His seasonal/chase debut wasn’t a bad effort considering he finished last of six at Carlisle and he took a step-forward from that display to finish third behind two nice chasing prospects at Exeter last-time-out, beaten only two-lengths. Today’s intermediate distance should be right up his street and, with improvement appearing as a possibility, he has a good chance at the prices.

The other one I like is ERNE RIVER (best price 8-1), who’s achieved smart form in just three starts, with two impressive victories the last two times against useful rivals and can make his presence felt on chase debut.

The seven-year-old won here on his second rules start before following-up at Warwick and connections have wasted no time in sending him straight over fences for his handicap debut. He could have been found an easier starting point in this sphere but this clearly means he’s highly-rated and based on what we’ve seen from him so far, he remains an exciting prospect going forward. Perhaps if he were from a more high-profile yard he might be half that price and based upon his three starts, it will be a surprise if he doesn’t develop into a pretty smart chaser this season.

GETAREASON (best price 20-1) couldn’t muster any sort of challenge over today’s course-and-distance last month on return but the nine-year-old is well-handicapped and isn’t out of this if back to anywhere near his best with that effort under his belt now eased in grade.

Rebecca Menzies’ charge was smart when trained in Ireland and, although he’s only won once for his current boss, he did manage to beat a 133-rated individual on that occasion and was third in a class-two event here in February off a mark of 133. He’s twelve-pound lower in this much weaker event and Nathan Moscrop’s claim is also handy, too. Now that he has finally been given some relief by the assessor, he could be a serious each-way player at double-figure price with four places widely available.
