He has no doubt been hard to train in recent years but TORPILLO (best price 7-2) has a bit of class and proved that by beating one of this year’s leading Ryanair Chase fancy Mister Fisher on chase debut a few years ago. He was then highly-tried over course-and-distance in the Grade 1 Henry VIII Novices' Chase and, while he could only finish fourth, he was actually sent off 13/8 favourite so better was clearly expected. The seven-year-old hasn’t been able to threaten in just three starts since but he’s two-from-two in this grade. He didn’t offer much at Cheltenham last time but he was returning from a lengthy absence so will have needing the outing and, with Sam Twiston-Davies back on board for the first time since the pair teamed up to win on chase debut, the top-weight must surely be too good for these if able to run to anything near his best given none of the remainder can boast comparable form.

This is a lot less competitive than the race FULGURIX (best price 7-2) contested at Warwick last time and given that form has already been boosted, a bold bid is forecast from the top-weight. He ran well for a long way on last month’s stable debut against higher-rated opponents and drops into this grade for the first time off a two-pound lower mark. I think he’ll be very well suited to the return to the minimum distance on just his third start in this sphere and with Charlie Hammond coming here to ride him instead of going elsewhere for his boss, the seven-year-old gets the vote to win the Bet At racingtv.com Handicap Chase.

UN PROPHETE (best price 15-8) was miles clear when falling two out off this exact mark in this race twelve months ago and is confidently expected to put matters right this time round with the Venetia Williams team in unbelievable form at present. Admittedly, he hasn't been in the same form since he fell here last year, but he’s been keeping stronger company and the return to slower ground will suit. The eleven-year-old gets the assistance of Ned Fox, who can take off a valuable ten-pounds and, barring accidents, compensation awaits this gelding.
