As always, a consistent horse who jumps well is what you need around this course, and the one who might give the rest a lesson in that department is DOUKAROV (best price 7-2), who’s been in excellent form this season and can keep up the good work under his seven-pound claimer. The seven-year-old is one of the best jumpers of a fence in public, who’s technique saw him collect a valuable pot at Newbury back in December and he has placed in three subsequent runs. In that latest effort, he had nine and a half lengths in hand over Another Crick when second back at Newbury and, astonishingly, meets that rival on identical terms, who should in theory be a lot higher in the market than the selection. Katpoli is feared most and is undoubtedly the best treated of these based on his form two seasons ago but his jumping has been awful this term and I’m not convinced he’ll even complete this race let alone win it, so Sean Curran’s charge can resume winning ways.

DIDERO VALLIS (best price 3-1) hasn’t been at his best of late but he’s useful when on song and will find this easier than his latest set of assignments. The nine-year-old has a really solid chance on these terms despite this going to be hard to beat Rolling Dylan who impressed at this track last time. That said, Venetia Williams’ charge has the form in the book to make a race of it with the favourite and, with a touch of luck, might be able to land the Military Gold Cup.

BENSON (best price 7-1) likes it here and while he has an habitual way of racing lazily during his races, Richard Newland’s charge makes a lot of appeal being only a pound higher than when last successful which came at this venue in a listed event. He returned a beaten favourite last time but his form is stacking up extremely well and, with some of the best form on offer back at his favourite hunting ground, he should be able to make a serious impact.
