Felton Bellevue has yet to finish outside the top two in all chase starts and is clearly better in this sphere than over hurdles but I cannot help but feel as though THE DOMINO EFFECT (best price 12-1) could be the value to potentially trouble the favourite off top-weight. Rated as high as 123 in that sphere, the highest-rated of these over hurdles, the eight-year-old has finished down the field in all three starts for Chris Gordon but he’s extremely well-treated based upon his hurdles form and drops into this grade for the first time in his career over obstacles. He needs to improve on what he’s shown so far over fences but his trainer Chris Gordon could hardly be in better form (6-18, 33%) in the last two weeks and that bodes well for his participant, who’s his only runner on the card, as well as Nick Schofield’s only ride of the day.

The Roofbase Handicap Chase, over 3m6f, has attracted eleven runners and I really like two of them who are proven over the distance and can roll back the years and run a big race for their connections. Firstly, JUST YOUR TYPE (best price 9-2), who’s down to a career-low mark and has the form in the locker to be very competitive in this event. He’s placed over four miles in the past off a 14Ib higher mark and while his jumping has ultimately cost him on more than one occasion in the past, including in the Eider last-time-out, he’s 5Ib lower than last time and won’t lack for stamina either. If the 10-year-old can put it all together, he’s sure to be thereabouts dropping down significantly in grade with Lilly Pinchin taking off a further 5Ib too.

The other one I like is Victor Dartnall’s veteran DANCING SHADOW (best price 7-2), who’s placed here twice in the past off marks in the 120’s in a pair of class two events and looked likely to score over course-and-distance in this race twelve months ago off a mark of 122 until unseating his rider four out. He was a shade underwhelming when last spotted but his three previous placed efforts this term reads well in the context of this event and we know he stays well, who handles this track very effectively too. Jamie Moore takes the ride and given that none of the others can boast comparable form, he’s a leading player for top honours in this winnable event.
