A very rare short-priced favourite from me but JEFFERY’S CROSS (best price 4-5) has shown enough promise on both outings over timber to suggest he’s up to opening his account in this event. His latest third at Southwell has worked out strongly given the winner has won again since, while his fifth on debut at Ascot is another solid piece of form. Dan Skelton’s inmate, who’s form has more substance than the remainder, should be suited to the extra furlong and is taken to get the better of Olly Murphy’s charge.

The Philip Hobbs-trained MONEY SPINNER (best price 3-1) is improving with each start over hurdles and has run well to finish third in both starts in handicaps to date, albeit on soft ground. He’s been very strong at the finish both times to indicate that this trip will suit him better and he drops into a class-five for the first time, which he’ll no doubt find easier. He could do with brushing up his jumping a bit but he’s thrown in here off the same mark as last time off 90 and should go close to opening his account over timber.
